Recycling
Benefits:
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recycling conserves natural resources that help sustain the environment, reduces the need for landfills, saves energy and prevents pollution. This means that everything that the Main Line Chamber can recycle impacts some part of the earth’s health.
What can be recycled?
- newspapers
- boxes
- paper
- plastic
- glass
- Toners & print cartridges- http://earth911.org/

Radnor Township website states:
Commercial and Institutional Recycling Requirements:
Persons occupying commercial and institutional establishments in Radnor Township are required to separate, from other waste, at least the following recyclable items: aluminum cans; high grade office paper; glass, bi-metallic cans; corrugated paper; and leaves.
All commercial and institutional establishments must develop a collection system for recyclables at their places of business and provide written documentation to the Township (required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the County of Delaware) of the number of tons recycled and of the total number of tons of waste generated annually.
This documentation can be obtained from the hauler and must be submitted to Radnor Township no later than February 1st of each year.
Action Plan:
- Organize a movie night for the Main Line Chamber employees to watch Al Gore’s movie, “The Inconvenient Truth.” Kevin Nolan, the owner of Nolan Painting, did this with his company to educate his employees as well as kick off the companies “go green” efforts.
- Use recycle dumpster on property.
- Place bins or containers in locations near trash cans where employees normally would throw away recyclables. Label the bins so that the materials are put in separate receptacles. (Karen – Researching cost of bins)
- Place signs around the office (not just near the receptacles) reminding employees to recycle. Use e-mails or newsletters to remind everyone what your office is recycling, where the bins are located, and how much they are helping the environment.
- Calculate how much you are recycling every so often. Keep a progress chart in a common area that shows employees how many pounds of aluminum, glass or paper they’ve collected. Set goals and reward employees when they’re reached.
